Marcy Tucker recommends: Family Haircut Center. 8A Blvd. Plaza. 4125 Chapel Hill Blvd. Durham, NC. 27707. (919) 489-0500
I have been taking my sons there for 10 yrs! Amber has been cutting hair there and may be the owner. Another barber, a Peruvian man, is good, as well.
Lee Tyre and dan Gauthier: The Duke barber shop in the lower level of the student union. Dave Fowler, the owner, cuts hair there Wed – Fri and in his home shop near Hillsborough Mon -Tues. The Duke shop is open Mon – Sat and there are 2-3 other barbers in the shop. Nothing fancy, just a haircut. He stays busy, so it’s best to make an appointment in advance. 919 684-3909
Matt Velkey: I go to a barber shop that’s in the East Gate Shopping center (I’m not too sure what exactly is the name of the shop, but it’s in right near the Trader Joe’s and Ace Hardware store). It’s a real barber shop (they even shave the back of your neck with a straight razor) that just cuts hair. The price is a bit steep ($18), but I’ve always been pretty happy with the results.
Ed Cerne: I have been going to Joyce Roberts for about 20 years. Originally Rockwook barbershop located behind Nana’s, she is now located in the American Tobacco campus on the lower level across from Starbucks. The shop has designated parking spots in the parking garage but I usually park on Blackwell St. You need an appoinment (919) 534-6575. Joyce does not work on Fridays but here are people in the shop that take walk-ins.
